Homeward Bound

We have finally reached the decision to return North...via sailboat, not plane....so many mixed emotions.  However, this is the right choice.  The Vindhler will be making quite a few ocean passages...and we have been having great fun getting her ready to taste the salt in her sails once more.  New England air is so different from the South... and finally visiting New York City again will be a highlight...our old stomping ground.  Not to mention seeing wooden spars rather than cigarette speeders.

Blake, ever the inventor, made a great super megaphone for class...lots of shenanigans when it arrived on board!  Combined with the favorite game, cover your brother in stuffed animals, a great time if you have earplugs!

The cats, ensconced in new netting around the boat, are doing their very best to have some shore leave before our departure.  Our boys are fidgety too...if only the safety nets could contain them once in awhile!  No chance of that, however..so off I run.

  1. You've had such a great adventure! And more to come on the way home. It's a wonderful thing to spend time like this with the family. We go camping on weekends for the closeness and the adventure, but you've been doing it non-stop... you are Superwoman! Don't rush back north if you want to putter about the boat in a bathing suit or sundress, DC's been rainy, cold and humid. Chilly, icky and sticky. It's the coldest spring I can remember, except for a freak hot-spell in March that had everyone cringing for the summer heat, soon to come now. Love you!!!! -C

  2. My dear, dear R,

Hadn't realized that you were dutifully posting on your blog despite all the chaos and uncertainty of the past few weeks, to say nothing of summer heat, life without the dock, and the rush of lifting anchor before the wind!

What an adventure you have had, are having, and will continue to have on the voyage home. The images in this and the previous posting are just superb, portraying the boys (all three) as happy and full of life. You are not only the image taker in these photos, but the image-maker as well. Without you to hold it all together, there would be no smiling faces and great expectations of all the voyages to come. We are terribly proud of you and for all you, John, and the boys have accomplished.

We are looking so forward to seeing you and spending time together at Moosehead. Won't you all have some tales to tell when we gather around the table or fireplace on a cold Maine evening and connect with one another as extended families do in an enchanted place like Ogontz.

Spectacular spring day here and the great outdoors are calling us to finally get out and do something to salvage the yard--grass a mile high, weeds overtaking the flowers, trees in need of pruning, the ravages of winter still around in bundles and piles, to say nothing of the two cords of oak and maple I have to split, haul, and stack.... I bet you can't wait to get back to the land! Love you All.
