The running joke is a water fountain off of the docks which sprays a stream of water out about six feet...Sam tells us this is a source of endless delight for many during the summer afternoons and the city has decided not to repair it.
We plan to leave Th morning for South Carolina...creeping slowly for Florida which we think we will arrive at sometime around the New Year. Our food supply is doing extremely well...except for our cookie/chocolate stash which is dwindling at an alarming rate.
Blake and I have been tucked in at the local library...time to make a mad dash back to the boat!
Lots of love from us all...
Dear R,
ReplyDelete"The Great Dismal Swamp." Something about that title that conjures up mystery, and that echoes back to the poor wretches that were forced to carve out the channel. Your description of it is great, very evocative and poignant. Saw the posting of young Master Blake. The boy can write! Continue with whatever you are doing as his new tutor/schoolmarm and he will grow into a man with something to say as well as one with the means to say it!
We are looking forward to hearing about the next port-of-call on your southern wanderings. Perhaps you are nearing or in South Carolina about now? We had snow last night, making for a spectacular winter scene this morning. I heard on the radio that even Louisiana and Texas had snow from the storm that worked its way up the coast and the Mississippi valley. Hope the warm Atlantic currents and the Gulf Stream saved you from the neige!
Our love and constant thoughts are with you. Hugs and kisses to all. Keep in touch.

Hi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to keep up with your adventures on the blog. I let too many days go by and then get panicky about catching up with you. It's winter here finally (after 60 degree weather this past Thursday). We had about 3-4 inches of wet snow last night. Today was the Hospice Festival of Lights in the ravine at Deering Oaks Park. Families or individuals buy a luminaria which is lit and they all lined the bridge, down the stairs and along the ravine on both sides. It was breathtaking and beautiful and so touching to remember all these folks who've left us physically, but not spiritually. The Hospice office admin asst. sang Amazing Grace so beautifully and so powerfully I'm sure you could hear her in Willard Square!! I'm wondering where you will be at Christmas?? You certainly had good fortune for Thanksgiving! Good for you. I thought you were hoping to be in florida with John's parents for the holidays but it doesn't sound like you will make it there. Wherever you are, please know we'll be thinking of you here in the old neighborhood. Take care and enjoy each adventure to the fullest!
Much love, Mary
